Question : Local path as UNC Path
My guess is this is easier to ask about...
I have a UNC path to a share such as \\SystemName\ShareName and all is fine when the computer is connected to a network - any network, in fact. Under these conditions, the UNC path functions as expected. However, when the computer is booted up with no network connection, the UNC path reports that it is not accessible reporting "You might not have permission..." etc.
Important notes
1) This path is on the LOCAL system and is NOT elsewhere on the network
2) It does not seem to matter what network I am connected to as long as there is a network present
3) There is not a permissions issue at the share or security level
4) The path is reachable via it's full local path (ie: C:\folder\folder\files)
If by chance this is a 'feature' of UNC paths is there a way to get around it? I am not always connected to a network when working on this project (Access database) and I would like to access consistently without hard-coding full path.
Answer : Local path as UNC Path
It is because no IP Stack is built when you have no adapters functioning.
