Question : Changing the MX IP address on IIS6

Hi Experts,

We're running a windows 2003 server, we have a client who has changed their nameservers so that there Domain details are now pointed to our server, however they have now decided that they want to deal with their email locally.

Which I'm guessing means that we need to alter their MX record to pint to the new server,... However I've got no idea how to do this.

Assuming it would be easy i've logged into the DNS MMC and changed the IP address of the MX record for the relevant domain,...,

I've then runa DNS lookup, but nothing appears to have changed?

Appreciate any help you can give - thanks

Answer : Changing the MX IP address on IIS6

The MX record change you need to make is in the Control Panel for the registrar that hosts their DNS records.  You don't set it internally on your server.

What you are querying when you do an NSLOOKUP is the DNS that is recorded on the registrars DNS servers.  Change the IP associated with the MX record on the registrar's site and the mail flow will change to the client.

This will take about 24-48 hours to propogate around the world, so don't expect an immediate response.
