Question : TCP/IP not sending ping response or keep-alives to iSeries

My XP svc pk 3 computer is using client access 5250 emulation to connect to the iSeries.  About 2 weeks ago it suddenly started  disconnecting my 5250 sessionsafter 10 idle minutes.  IBM did a trace and found it was not responding to the keep-alives being sent.  Then I discovered it will no longer respond to ping, tracert, or remote desktop.  This just started.  I have not made any concious changes on the computer.  I turned off my Kaspersky anti-virus software for a short time.  That was not the problem.  My firewall is turned off.  I can connect to the internet and to anything else.  My 5250 sessions time out after 10 minutes.  I also can not use Windows update.

My computer is hardwired  to the network with the wireless disabled.

Answer : TCP/IP not sending ping response or keep-alives to iSeries

I solved the problem.  The reason is a certain driver that Cisco's VPN client installed on your machine. It is called 'Deterministic Network Enhancer'. This driver is active even if you do not load the VPN client.
Luckily there is a solution around.
1.      Start the VPN client
2.      In the tray, right-click on the icon
3.      Uncheck "Stateful Firewall (Always On)
