Question : Server 2003 NAT topology configuration
Good morning everyone,
I am studying for my security+ certification test and I am going over NAT in the material i am using to study. I know that server2003 can be used to configure NAT but i don't see anything that shows what that network topology would look like if you did. The idea is that the server receives the public IP address from your ISP so i am assuming that you have a layer 2 firewall behind your ISP provides router/modem then the server plugged into it. Would you have the rest of your network plugged into that same firewall or would you have to have two network cards in your server and use it as a proxy as well. I appreciate the info anyone can give, i'm just trying to wrap my head around this concept as a whole.
Thanks,
-Casper
Answer : Server 2003 NAT topology configuration
You should use 2 cards with NAT. It translates entire network traffic so no proxy is required at all. Clients from inside just have access to outside.
