Question : Setting up Polycom over a router.
I have a DW7000 and VSX7000. THe direcway modem used to be the primary connection between the Polycom box but now we want to share the connection using a wireless linksys broadband router. I thought I set the system up right, the polycom shows the IP address the same as the one from our ISP, but now we can't call in or out. I checked each settings but before I change anything I thought I would run it through here. DMZ (exposes router to the internet) currently disabled on the router Port Range Forwarding (for servers and games) enabled for the polycom (settings retrieved from the polycom system) Everything on the polycom is set to automatic, the IP is public, and the ports are fixed. The direcway modem has two lan ports but when I plugged the polycom into one, the IP address showed up correctly but then went to 0.0.0.0 and then nothing at all. There are no activity lights either. I would plug it into the first but we decided to shared the internet between us so I am forced to go through the router.

Answer : Setting up Polycom over a router.

You need to give the polycom a public IP address. The linksys router now has the ip address that the polycom used to have. If you have a pool of static address, you can set up a "one to one NAT" in the linksys and forward a pubic IP to the polycom. Also, put the polycom in a DMZ to ensure that there is nothing being blocked.
