Question : Duplicate name on network

Hello all,

I am working on a clients machine that just started this morning telling me that a Duplicate named computer is on the network. The client is running SBS2k3 and xp pro on the client machine. I have already check multiple things and tried multiple things to fix the problem. I first verified that there of course no duplicate computers on the network through active directory and with nbstat -n, when I dod the nbstat it shows no connections. They are running a wireless connection and I have disabled the LAN connection and the 1394 connection, so the wireless card is the only connection. I have verified in that there are no duplicate IP addresses through DCHP, the only duplicate entry I can find is in the WINS server. There are two entries one for workstationa and one for file server, but there are 10 other computers that show this so I doubt that is the problem.
I have also tried using a static IP that is not in the DCHP scope. Finally I deleted the DHCP entry on the server and then rebooted the client computer, and still says there is a duplicate name on the network. Recently there has only been one computer added to the network but it has a very different name, also I verfied that the hostname is correct for the computer and not a old host name. Any one have ideas?

P.S. - It only shows up on the log in screen once and that is it.

Answer : Duplicate name on network

We figured out the problem, there was a conflict with a IP address and a old computer in the WINS server. After we tombstoned the old WINS entry and deleted the DHCP entry the error stoped occuring.
