Question : Remote Access to Oracle database over vpn through cable internet

I have installed safenet vpn and connected to my office from home over cable internet. After setting up the DSN and WINS IP addresses I am connected to the office network. But when I configure oracle alias it does not see the listener. What could be the problem.

If you are certain about the configuration, and it sounds as though you are, then my GUESS is that port 1521 is being filtered.

To verify this, get a shareware or freeware port scanner from the internet (try http://www.dataset.fr) and scan the open ports on your Oracle server. If port 1521 fails, then it is being blocked and you may need to go to your VPN provider to unblock it.

Is safenet a provider or a piece of software? If it's software is it configurable at the port level?
