Question : AppleTalk with Windows XP

Hi Experts,

I have been using AppleTalk with Windows 2000 (PC-1) and Windows NT (PC-2) to communicate with my Apple LaserWriter 12/640 via a LinkSys BEFSR41 Etherfast Cable Router.  I would like to move both PCs to Windows XP but according to Microsoft, AppleTalk is not supported in that OS.

It was suggested on another "help" site that it is possible to add AppleTalk protocol in Windows XP by adding the following files from Windows 2000 into XP: netatlk.inf, sfmatalk.sys, sfmatmsg.dll, sfmwshat.dll, sfmpsprt.dll, and sfmmon.dll.

I have been unable to get Windows XP to show AppleTalk protocol as an "Add Protocol" option with this procedure.

Can anyone shed any light on this subject or suggest an alternative approach?

Thanks, MacMichael

Answer : AppleTalk with Windows XP

I got this solution from:
http://www.macslash.org/AskMacSlash/02/09/09/2322220.shtml
refer to this url if you need more info. There are a few methods available.

Try going to printers, add a local printer, winXP will try to detect it and will fail. Choose to Install Manually, and Create New Port. Standard TCP/IP port.

Hope this helps.
