Question : Remote Desktop Printer Sharing
|
|
I have a client who uses Remote Desktop to connect to a machine with our software on it, im trying to get the remote machine with our software on it to pick up the printer.
When i connect via Remote Desktop, i have made sure that in local resources the share printer is ticked.
The printer is a HP6310 its connected via USB on her laptop. It is shared on her machine.
One thing that concerns me is when we connect via remote desktop it does not prompt the warning that the printers are going to be shared. Which it happens to do when ever i try to do a remote desktop on a different machine.
Im not sure if there is anything else you need to know?
Thank you kindly

I know USB printers can be fickle sometimes w/ remote desktop:

Also, I don't believe you should get a warning when sharing only local printers... I thought you were only warned about disk drives and seriel ports. You can check the following key as well and see if the computername/ip address you are connecting to is found on the local machine. If it is, delete it to reset the warning (a value should be here if the user checked the box to stop warnings about local shares.)
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\LocalDevices
So far as the drivers go, if you have trouble with the standard 6310 driver, you could try this:
Install a 2nd copy of the HP 6310 on the laptop, and call it "6310 for remote desktop" (or something like that.) Use the same port the existing 6310 printer is defined with in the Control Panel/Printers. Instead of using the 6310 driver, install a driver from Windows list of drivers and select "HP Deskjet 550C." This driver should have come with Windows so it should be easy to find.
You may have to manually install the "HP Deskjet 550C" driver on the remote machine as well.
good luck!
