Question : Linksys WRT54G and VPN

Does a linksys WRT54G modem work for windows VPN?

I have a server that sits behind a linksys WRT54G at work running server 2003 and I need to know if it can connect to the local network at work through this router.  I've tried, and I can connect, but I can't ping anything except my machine.  I can't even ping the server when I connect.

Either the WRT54G is messing something up, or it's something with my settings on the server.

Answer : Linksys WRT54G and VPN

If you are completing a connection, likely port forwarding on the router is correct, however inability to communicate can be due to not having PPTP-pass-through enabled an the same router.

This is a security feature that separates you from your local network. If you want to disable it, you should be able to so by choosing properties of the "Virtual Private Connection" and then going to: Networking | Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) | on the general tab click the advanced button | "use default gateway on remote network"
Un-checking this box should resolve.

Perhaps verify the server is properly configured. Following site gives very good instructions for basic configuration. Should you want to start fresh with the wizard, right click on the server name in the Routing and Remote Access console and choose Disable RRAS. Then right click again and choose enable.
