Question : Simultanious Frame Relay and VPN over Internet
|
|
Hello,
We currently have 10 Cisco 1721 routers (in our 10 retail stores) that are connected back to a Cisco 2600 series router (at our corporate office) via a private frame relay network. Obviously this technology is very old (slow) and we are looking to change to a secure VPN structure over the internet. My question is related to the switchover as we cannot have any (or very little) downtime in our retail stores. Is it possible to have the 1721's connected to the frame relay network and a DSL line, or am I going to have to buy 10 more routers to do a no-downtime switch? Also, currently our corporate office uses a basic netopia DSL router to access the internet. Can I have the Cisco 2600 act as our internet connection? I know this will most likely be a big job, but any help is appreciated

If you are going to go with ADSL, then yes you need a ADSL WIC card.
The generic steps would be:
1) Get ADSL WIC card and order ADSL service. 2) Configure ADSL WIC as needed to connect to Internet. 3) IMPORTANT: As part of #2, make SURE that you have a static route ithat uses the current frame relay interface in the 1721 for the main office IP subnet(s). 4) Default route in 1721 points to ADSL/Internet path. 5) OFF HOURS setup/test VPN connection to remote office over Internet. 6) Setup route to main office IP subnet(s) to use the VPN tunnel.
If it works, do same thing 9 more times.
