Question : IE gets wrong IP address

When browsing to an internal website (it-helpdesk), MSIE (8) goes to an external website. It appears to be one of those redirected website that just lists a bunch of different links. When I try a ping immediately following an attempt to visit the website, the ping goes to that external IP address (216.34.131.135). If I run an ipconfig /flushdns and then do another ping, the ping goes to the correct internal IP address. If I then try to visit it-helpdesk in IE again, it might go to the correct website or the external website. The problem is intermittent, but it occurs frequently. I just keep flushing the DNS and retrying the browser and eventually it hits the right website.

->I've got my own DNS Server (MS). The entry for that host is correct in the DNS server. When I do a nslookup for it-helpdesk, I get the correct IP address for both the DNS server and it-helpdesk.
->I've checked the hosts file - there are no entries there. I've checked MSIE favorites and it-helpdesk is not there.
->I've checked the LAN settings in MSIE under Tools|Internet Options|Connections and there is no proxy (which is how it should be for my network).
->I've checked the MSIE add-ons and didn't see anything I wasn't expecting.
->I've run MBAM and SAS and constantly run AVG - no infections found.
->I've tried googling for an answer, but didn't find anything remotely like this.

I 've only noticed this behaviour on one machine.

Windows XP SP3
MSIE 8
Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain

I don't know where else to look for this. Any help would be appreciated

Answer : IE gets wrong IP address

Unlikely, but could your DNS server respond too slowly, so it is marked as not responding and secondary is tried? In any case, you should not set up  na external secondary DNS server on your clients. They always should contact an internal DNS server.
