Question : Repair Connection failure

I have a Dell XP Pro PC that worked fine on the internet until 2 days ago.  It was using a wireless connection  DLink Wireless Extreme G card.  I changed over to the internal Broadcom 10/100 card on a wired connection and it still would not work.  I attempted to repair the connection and the only thing that happens is a message is displayed that says The following steps of the repair operation failed    Renewing the IP address.  Please contact your network administrator or ISP.  The network connection does not show limited connectivity. The ipconfig shows ip address 169.254.58.56 subnet 255.255.0.0 and no gateway.  I have other PCs on the same router that are configured correctly.  I have even used the same cable and same port and no problem  except with this one PC.  Configuring Network connection with just one client Microsoft Client for Networks and just tcp/ip protocol.  Any suggestions?
