Question : Renaming Exchange Server 2007

Hello All:

I am installing Exchange 2007 for the first time and following a set of instructions that have been very helpful.  I am at the point to where I am beginning to move mailboxes over from my legacy system to Exchange 2007.  My question is after the mailboxes are moved and I have finished decommisioning the old exchange server--can I rename the Exchange 2007 and call it the Computer Name of the old exchange server without any problems?   For example, the present old exchange server is called Server1 and the New Echange 2007 server is called Server2.  I would like to rename the Server2 and call it Server1.

Thanks

Answer : Renaming Exchange Server 2007

The Exchange 2007 setup is quite intuitive - if there is a problem it will soon tell you.
Once removed you will have to remove all of the data files before doing anything else like reinstalling Exchange 2007.

Doesn't matter whether the machine is a DC or not, once Exchange is installed you cannot rename it. There is more to the machine than the name on the network - the name is used throughout Exchange.

Simon.
