Question : mgmtdb.log - ds not working - can't log in... even to backup exec.

I am getting an Assertion Failed error and a dirty file notice. It has to do with the NAL database I believe and with the file mgmtdb.log. Directory Services do not work and the server will not let anyone log in. I have typed enable login yet it does no good. I have tried to run DSREPAIR but it quits saying it could not continue. I have found a Novell doc that seems to be close to what I am experiencing: TID-10059501
It suggests that I replace the bad mgmtdb.log file with one I have previously backed up.
Veritas Backup Exec requires that I log in (I tried logging in as admin) in order for it to do what it does on the server. CATCH 22. It won't let me log in. I cannot log in to get the file that I need to fix the thing that is keeping me from logging in!
Any ideas on how I might otherwise replace this file?
Note: The document also has and alternate 8-step process to modify some other files. I am not very comfortable with what it suggests I attempt.
This one Netware 6.5 sp3 (OES) server provides directory service for everyone. For now, my users are out of luck.
