Question : Active Directory error: Specified user already exists - but I don't think so...

Hello
In a W2k AD I wanted to create a new user "service" with the user logon name "[email protected]". As usual I used the same value for the pre-Windows 2000 user logon name, i.e. DOMAIN\service. The user was mailbox enabled with the email address [email protected]. Normally, that works fine. This time, however, I got the error "The following Active Directory error occurred: Specified user already exists". I had to use the pre-w2k logon name DOMAIN\servicepre2k to create the user.
Is this a problem with AD or is there really a user with such a pre-w2k logon name (and a different post-w2k logon name)?
As far as I can see, there is no other user with the pre-w2k logon name "service". But maybe, the problem is the way I'm looking. I used the console snap-in "Active Directory Users and Computers" to search for it. Is there a better way?
Thanks for your help.

"Service" is a built in hidden group in Windows...that's why you weren't able to find it.

If you wanted the email account [email protected], what you could do is name the account [email protected], and try adding an SMTP address called [email protected] to the account- this may work.
