Question : LYNKSYS WRT54GS Wireless Router with an XP platform will not allow internet access.

I have tried to install my LYNKSYS WRT54GS wireless router on numerous attempts to two different desk tops. Both desk tops function perfectly on the internet as stand alone connections, but niether will see the internet when connected to the router. In fact, the set up (CD) utility instructs me to go through a series of steps where I start out connecting the PC to the internet minus the router, then hook up the router and comunicate with it, and finally it will test the internet connection. That is where it all fails. I cannot complete the setup becuase when I put the router between the PC and the modem I cannot see the internet. I have tried powering everthing down (for hours and minutes) then powering up the modem first, router next, and lastly the PC. Nothing seems to work. Please help.

Answer : LYNKSYS WRT54GS Wireless Router with an XP platform will not allow internet access.

What did you give the ip address for the router?

Try to give it as 192.168.0.1,  as you enable the DHCP on, you should not assign ip address for your desktop manually.  It will pick it up from the router.  Dont connect the router to the modem yet.  Try to configure your router first like:

- give the router username and password if your ISP required.
- set it to pick up the ip address from ISP automatically or you can assign it manually if your ISP gave it to you.
- .................

Then connect to the modem, turn the modem on.  Use your desktop try to ping www.google.com.  Should be fine, i reckon. :)

Ohh, last thing, check the cable from your router to your modem, it may need the crossover cable.

Good luck.
