Question : SFTP vs FTPS

What is the difference between SFTP and FTPS? Are either of these a standard? I am trying to support standard secure file transfer options and currently support FTP with PGP encrypted files, and FTP over IPSec VPN. Many people I connect to ask about FTPS or SFTP. Are either of these similar to VPN, where any vendors' products can be used to connect to any other vendors' products? Will any client connect to any server? Or do you have to buy specific vendors' client and server SFTP or FTPS packages to get it to work? I want to support options most people would be able to support.
