Question : What are typical gigabit throughput speeds?

I have a gigabit router and gigabit ethernet adapters in each of 2 computers in my home network. One of the computers is connected to the router using a CAT6 cable and the other is connected with a CAT5E cable. When I transfer data between the two, I only get speeds like 35 Mbp/s. I think this is slow as I read that typical transfer speeds would be more in the range of 80 Mbp/s. Can anyone confirm would a typical speed would be? I am testing with one large 4Gb file.

Answer : What are typical gigabit throughput speeds?

1.  Make sure the file is not fragmented.
2.  Make sure the network adapters are connected at Gbit speeds
3.  Update your drivers.
4.  Try replacing the cables (one at a time).

If you have Gbit cards and a switch, I would expect to see between 150 Mbit to 300 Mbit actual throughput.
