Question : lsass.exe running high on my server - causing problems PLEASE HELP
|
|
Hello Please can someone help asap.
I have had many problems since migrating my sbs server and cant work out a problem. Then since last night i was warmly welcomed by a high usage service lcass. Basically it is taking most of the bandwidth. Virtual mem keeps adjusting and is using 5.77GB of mem. Something cant run on the server due to this error. i am trying to log onto a Pc upstairs and it wont it says cant find domain controller and i know its not the cabling or anything with the PC/
My SBs 2003 SP1 has sent me an error report and says that lsass.exe is taking exessive amounts of bandwidth
PLEASE HELP.

Okay... I went and reread your question... you have jumped to conclusions that are not at all correct.
You stated above that, "My SBs 2003 SP1 has sent me an error report and says that lsass.exe is taking exessive amounts of bandwidth"
Please don't confuse "MEMORY" with "Bandwidth". These are two entirely separate things.
What it looks like is that your page file may not be set correctly. Since you have 2GB of RAM installed, your Page file should be about 3GB. So, first, make sure that's properly configured in System Properties > Advanced > Performance > Advanced > Virtual Memory > Change. I would set it to 3070MB for both the Initial and Maximum size. Then reboot the server.
You also need to make sure that your anti-virus software does not scan the Exchange store database files (amongst many other things, but these are the most important exclusions). So, be sure that the \MDBDATA folder which contains the priv1.edb, priv1.stm, pub1.edb and pub1.stm files is excluded from general scanning by the AV software.
However, you may need to be a bit more agressive with your exclusions. Review these lists of what else to exclude: http://msexchangetips.blogspot.com/2006/09/exchange-identifying-file-level.html http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822158
I should note that Norman AV is not widely used on SBS, so I'm unsure of any other issues it may be causing.
Next, DO NOT set lsass.exe to below normal priority. That will most definitely cause problems.
So... that should resolve your "large amounts of memory" warnings.
As for why the PC upstairs can't contact the DC? Well that has absolutely NOTHING to do with this... so I'd suggest that you post a separate question regarding that problem and be sure to detail the exact error messages you are getting as well as posting COMPLETE ipconfig /all's from both the workstation and the server.
