Question : Are there other solutions to VPN with Netopia Cayman 3546 Router

Hello,

We have a Netopia Cayman 3546 Router that we use for internet DSL access.  I was told by Netopia support that I have to purchase a key to unlock the VPN and run Safenet soft remote VPN client on the PC.

With my near to none knowledge in this area, I thought that I'd be able to use the Windows XP Remote Access capability on the PC and Windows 2000 Server.  I was told that I can't because the Windows VPN client is PPTP VPN and the Cayman routers only allow to terminate 1 IPSEC tunnel on it.   I was also told that PPTP termination on the router is not  an option.

Does anyone have any experience with setting up VPN with Cayman Routers and does this sound like the only viable solution?

I also don't know how this impacts the configuration on the Server and remote PC?

Please be descriptive in your responses.  This is kinda Greek to me.

Thanks for your time,

dweb937,

There is a program called Real VNC you can download (www.realvnc.com)

Download this on each computer, 1 computer will have the server and the other will have the client. (the server and client are included in both)

It will allow you to setup the server and give you a port number. If you have this port number you should be able to log into the router and port forward to the IP of the local machine.
