Question : Fastest way to transfer files in LAN

Hello,

Since I am leaving my home for a while, I want to copy my photos (10GB), music (50GB) to my laptop.
My computer is plugged to DL-504UP router and my laptop connected to the router via wireless (802.11g).

The transfers via file sharing is really slow, transfer of 10GB takes almost 4 hours. That must be because the "sharing" connection uses only one socket. Offer me a freeware server/client which would increase my speed rapidly. Since I have downloaded some files from my friends in the other building (using WAN) on 10MB/s (torrents) I would like to reach similar results on the LAN. I guess I need some software which would use more sockets. Also I have installed the registry tweak which not allows me to open up to 500 sockets on Windows (25 default). On both computers.

Thanks.

Answer : Fastest way to transfer files in LAN

If you have a firewire or USB 2.0 hard drive that would probably be the fastest solution.  I would not recommend trying to hack or modify the registry.

Another route you could go is create a FTP server.  Share the files there and connect and download the files.  There are several different programs you can get trial versions for.  Just go to download.com and search for FTP.
