Hello, First of all I have to tell you I have read most of the information about this in more than 100 users question.
I have 2 PC's on a network (pear to pear with a croos cable). One is a desktop and the other is a laptop with Win XP professional with SP2
1)The laptop can see the desktop on the network under "view workgroup computers" but when I click to enter I can see this "pc name is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource...Access is denied."
2) The Desktop can't see the view workgroup computers. When I try to acces I can see the error "pc name is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource...Access is denied."
I Have tried:
- Repaired the IP address - Panda and microsoft firewall disabled (even tried uninstall) - Both PC's have same users with no passwords - Run local security policy editor from control panel admin tools and set the local policy, Network Access: Let everyone permissions apply to anonymous users, to enabled and make sure guest account is enabled not as secure - install the 'file and printer sharing for microsoft networks' protocol ! - Both PC's have the Guest a/c enabled. - Share level: For the required shared directory: under properties, sharing, permissions: "Everyone" is listed (on the PC that cannot be accessed). - I have made all the changes that I have read about the "local security policy" and know I dont remember all.
In the desktop I have one broadband conexion connect by an USB cable. this use one IP address. The address for the pear to pear home network is 150.100.100.10 and the laptop 150.100.100.20
If I click in Obtain IP address automatically I see an error "the cable is unplug"
Any suggestion?

Therefore when you ping the desktop (192.168.0.1) from the laptop you are getting a reply, right? But you still cannot connect to the Internet. Very odd. Perhaps I should see the results from "ipconfig /all >C:IP.txt" when run on the laptop. That will tell me if the DNS and gateway are configured correctly. Thanks, --Rob
If you want to check. You would normally do this on the laptop with DHCP, but you are saying it's not working. So set the following (1st 2 you have already done): IP=192.168.0.2 Subnet mask=255.255.255.0 Gateway=192.168.0.1 DNS1=192.168.0.1 DNS2=
