Question : Trouble adding SSL Certificate using Plesk/Apache/Linux combination
|
|
I have been trying, without success, to install a Verisign SSL certificate onto a Linux server running Apache, administrated using Plesk 7.5 for a specific domain. The server in question uses virtual hosting with one shared IP address (I suspect this is the problem).
Plesk will happily take the certficate against the domain but, as the manual says, the certificate is not automatically allocated to an IP/domain. (This is confirmed by the '0 used' against the certificate listing).
Questions: 1. Does the SSL certificate need an exclusive IP address? 2. If not, how do you install the certificate for a specific domain on a server with a shared IP address and leave the default certificate in place.
Thanks CT

"1. Does the SSL certificate need an exclusive IP address?"
Yes ... unless you are using a wildcard SSL certificate that allows you to host multiple subdomain sites (ie. www.you.com, sub.you.com, other.you.com) or are using the kind of shared server SSL certificate that hosting companies use (much more expensive and complex than getting another IP address.
