Question : Specifying PVID for Windows PE (Altiris, on PXE boot)

Hello Experts,

We have the need (for QoS purposes) to have our Altiris server operate in a separate VLAN. With the workstation connected to a tagged port, PXE boots to the VLAN with specified PVID, obtains the DHCP IP address and downloads the image no problem... Now when the Windows PE gets initialized, it falls back into the default VLAN and is therefore unable to obtain IP address from the scope designated to the Alteris VLAN.

Does anybody know where/how to specify the default PVID for the Windows PE to use when it initializes the network during bootup? Please let me know if clarification is required.

I'm afraid it is not possible the way you want it. When a device is not VLAN-ware you need to configure your switch:

"Each physical port has a parameter called PVID. Every 802.1Q port is assigned a PVID value that is of its native VLAN ID (default is VLAN 1). All untagged frames are assigned to the LAN specified in the PVID parameter. When a tagged frame is received by a port, the tag is respected."
