Question : How to force clients to sync time on a Windows network

We're installing an MSF radio receiver to our PDCe to enable it as an authoritative time source that is not dependant on an internet connection for accurate time. This all works fine and dandy.

Our issue is that we need to force our workstations (and other servers) to poll the time source regularly every hour. Windows (2000, 2003 and XP to my knowledge) will poll every 45 minutes. Once it has received three time updates without having to update the clock on the PC, Windows automatically reduces the poll interval to eight hours.

Is there a way, without using third party software, to keep the poll interval regular - every hour would be ideal but every 45 minutes would be acceptable.

If there is no built - in way of doing this suggestions for freeware software that will force clients to poll the time server will be gratefully accepted.

TIA

I think that it will only log if the time sync fails.  I believe you would need to turn on debugging for the time service  to see exactly what is going on.

Here is a article on how to turn debugging on

Here's a command line description of testing by changing you computer's time manually.

This is a fairly detailed document covering the in's and out's of the time service that you might find useful.
