Question : How to connect 2 computers on DSL modem
I'm subscribed to DSL services that came with 2 dynamic IP addresses so I want to use 2 computers to access the Internet at the same time. I have 2 computers--a laptop (Windows NT) and a desktop (Windows ME), each already has an Ethernet card. I figured if I have a hub, I can connect the ADSL modem to the hub on a Cat5 cable, and then connect each computer to the hub via 2 Cat5 cables. But the "specialist" at the computer store told me a different story--that I should install an extra ethernet card on my desktop and use that as a server. He said I should connect the ADSL modem to the desktop, use the second ethernet port to connect to the hub and then connect another cable from the hub to my laptop.
Can someone tell me the right way to connect the 2 computers to the ADSL modem and hub? What is the cheapest way to do it and what brand hub do you recommend (I don't need anything fancy, just need to access the Internet).

If you have two dynamic ip's then you are correct, hook up the dsl to the hub, and connect the NIC's to the hub, and it will assign different ip's to each machine Hubs are cheap, you can get a 2 or 4 port hub, just make sure that it has an uplink port on it the specialist was giving you the configuration for using ICS, and only one ip address. see www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/sharing.htm
