Question : Problems loading wireless NIC for different users.
|

Hey experts! I am having difficulties with a wireless NIC. I've used 3 different cards and each of them have come up with the same results. The cards are a D-Link wireless (I don't remember the model), a Linksys WMP11 wirelss, and a Linksys Wireless-G. The current cards I am using and trying to solve the problem for is the Linksys Wireless-G.
Background info: I've installed four cards into four different computers according to the instructions given by Linksys. The cards work just fine. Now here is where the problem occurs. If the computer is powered down or restarted I have no problems with the cards... unless the user is a restricted user. These computers will only have restricted users. These computers are located at a place that I won't go to often (hopefully not at all!) So I can't be guaranteed that they will leave the computers on at all times.
The problem: Once the computer is powered off/restarted and logged back into the restricted users account the wireless card con't connect. I get the good old "Network Cable Unplugged", and I cannot do anything because this is a restricted user. However if I start up the computer in an administrators account (or power user for that matter) The card will load the drivers and work, then I can logoff and logon into the restricted users account and the card will work. This is a pain in the rear, I don't want to go to this site everytime a computer was restarted, and I am not giving away the password to my administrator account.
I've done some searching but I've been unable to find anybody who has come accross the same problem. I'm hoping the fine folks here can help me out.
Thanks, Tekkie Geek.
ps. I'm using Windows 2000 Pro

Answer : Problems loading wireless NIC for different users.

The answer is..... Task Scheduler. I set up task scheduler to open up the wireless monitor as the administrator everytime the restricted user logs in. It works! I solved it!
I thought that since it wasn't loading why don't I tell it to load? Then as I was using task scheduler I noticed that I had to tell the task which user to perform the task as.
It is always something simple that you overlook.
Thanks for your attempts!
