Question : \\servername is not accessible. You might not have permission...The remote procedure call failed. VPN issue.

This one is driving me nuts so it gets 500 points. I have a Windows 2003 SBS and XP SP2 clients. There are several laptop users who connect via a Netscreen VPN connection when they are out of the office using a Netsreen 5GT router (in the office) and the Netsreen software VPN client (on the laptop).

Only one user is having this problem. When he is at home, or any other remote location, he is able to connect to the VPN no problem. When he tries to browse to the SBS server, which is also the main file server, he gets "\\server1 is not accessible. You might not have permission blah blah blah contact your admin. The remote procedure call failed".

He also has mapped drives that point to shares on that server. When we try those we get "An error occurred while reconnecting Z: \\server1\sharename Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. The connection has not been restored". There are two other servers (both Windows 2003) on the network that he can browse no problem (\\server2, \\server3). We have the host file configured for all three servers and NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled. I can also ping server1 successfully.

I can access his laptop remotely when it's at his house. I connected to it, logged him off, logged on as the domain admin and I get the same problem.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Answer : \\servername is not accessible. You might not have permission...The remote procedure call failed. VPN issue.

Try and reoload the security policy in the Netscreen Reomte Client VPN. Use the same policy that the other laptops are using.
