Question : not able to run dcpromo

I have a 2003 server that I am trying to remove from a domain. there is a 2000 server that is the domain master.

I had to do a fresh install on the 2k server so I had migrated the domain to the 2k3 server and the dns. I then reinstalled the 2k server and then moved the domain and dns back to the 2k server. However now that I have moved everything, I am trying to remove the 2k3 server from the domain and am not able to. I do dcpromo to remove it, but get a dns error that it can not move over some of the schema. I have looked through  the dns and it looks like the records for both servers are there and correct. Any ideas?

Answer : not able to run dcpromo

If DNS is configured correctly, you might need to consider manually removing the DC from Active Directory after the moves.  You can find the steps for the manual removal at http://www.petri.co.il/delete_failed_dcs_from_ad.htm.

Hope this helps...
