Question : OSPF routing HOW does it happen
|
|
Basically I need a full example of a routing setup using OSPF to connect a computer thru 1 computer to another (or 1 computer to a router in this case), more details are below.
I'm trying to setup routing with OSPF because I had no luck whatsoever with static routing. I prefer OSPF because it seems more fun the NAT or the other protocols... This is WIn2k advanced server in Routing and Remote Access MMC console.
I have computers setup like this:
192.168.2.1 is the address of the NIC which is gateway: other computers are connected here. 192.168.2.108 is IP of the NIC which is connected to the Linksys router (the 2 are on the same computer). Linksys router is 192.168.1.1.
192.168.2.1=mygateway, 192.168.2.108=connection-to-router, 192.168.1.1=linksys-router,... <-->to WAN clients<--->192.168.2.1<--->192.168.2.108<--->192.168.1.1<--->WAN
gateway-using-computers would like to connect to WAN thru the first (192.168.1.1) computer.
How to setup the OSPF areas and interfaces, and static routing (if static routing is needed)??????????????? I can't figure this one out at all. I have no idea how to use destination and area together in which area, nor do I know how to use static routing (?????interface?????-destination-mask-gateway) and don't know if these need to be used together in order to make the router (win2k adv. server) a happy router.
Like which 'area' goes with which 'destination' and 'mask' and how many areas do I need etc. would be helpful..
So an example set of settings could really help me out here. thanks yall!

What subnet mask are you using? 255.255.255.0 default class C? If so they you have a single IP segement theoretically on two sides of a router. Plus that 192.168.2.108 is on a different IP subnet to the Linksys? Can you even connect to the internet from this multihomed machine?
I recommend changing 192.168.2.108 to 192.168.1.108 to put it on the same IP subnet as the Linksys router. Then OSPF should updates the routes after a few minutes and everything should work.
