Question : novell - netware 5 get data question
|
|
Hi, i have a client that we setup netware 5 a few years ago. I'm way rusty on it now, and he called me and said that the server crashed, abended. well now clients cant connect to it, and when he runs vrepair, it takes like 2 secconds, and dosent fix anything.
question - can someone give me a few commands to use on the server to fix the volume? where to go? i know its broad, but i also know thats not to far to ask. also i remember that there is utility to run from dos to copy the data from the volume? i think i used a program called "captain nemo" one year, but i cant really remember how it worked.

list devices will show all the drives and controllers that it can see, assuming that they have loaded.
nss then a space will list all the nss comand line options I would
1. Take the server down, power off. 2. Physcailly check installed drives - the numbers etc 3. power on and check out the bios screens - what SCSI controllers does it see, what hard drives are attached. If the system is not seeing them at a hrd ware level then netware is not going to. 4. boot to DOS F8 though the start up and stop at the server.exe command. The manually start the netware load by typing server -na this will start the server with out running the autoexec.ncf alt-esc of the splash screen so that you can watch the drivers loading.
At this stage you are only loading the driver from the startup.ncf so its just disk drivers. Once trouble shoot the errors you have seen - if it comes up with out errors - list devices and compare what you have seen at boot to whats there now. It would not be the first server to not have its disk drives saved to the startup.ncf.
if everything is ok at the level restart the server and watch as it monut the volumes and loads the autoexec.ncf.
