Question : XP pc in SBS2003 domain gets disconnected randomly
|
|
Hello,
in a SBS2003 SP2 domain, a Workstation XP SP2 disconnects randomly from the server briefly and reconnects (or so it seems). The observable effects are: - the offline files balloon pops up saying that the server is offline. After few minutes, another balloon says that it's online again. - network shares are not accessible anymore (need to reboot to get access again) - outlook does NOT get disconnected - antivirus (TrendMicro) does NOT get disconnected - the server always answers to ping
This happens mostly (but not always) after the user logs on and an offline files sync occours. Sometimes it just happens in the middle of the day. Whenever this happens, the user has to shutdown/restart the pc in order to be able to access the network shares again. After the reboot, the problem usually doesn't occour anymore for sometime, even for some days.
Any ideas?
Thanks, J

It sounds like you may have a faulty network card or port.
Try ping with the -t option to ping continuously (Ctrl-C to stop) and see if packets get dropped periodically.
Try another network card
Try another switch/port if you have one
