Question : DNS settings

I have just put up a new web site, DNS resolution is working and the site is reachable, however I can only reach the site with if i call the domain name only without the www.
am I missing a record in DNS that points to the WWW. if i enter http://mysite.com I get to the site if I add the www. I do not ie. http://www.mysite.com

could I get a wakeup here I must be missing some record or entered a record incorectly.
