Question : Creating RIP in Altiris

Is there any way in Altiris to create a RIP without being Re-imaging the pc all the time ?

Why we have to re-image the pc every single time when we create RIP through RapidInstall in Altiris.

Thanks.

Answer : Creating RIP in Altiris

AHA!  I've gone through this with other printers, and it turns out, it is the application -- not the printer or Ripper, that limits this activity.  You will notice that ALL of Adobe products, and of course Quark Express, allow a single image send to the ripper, and let it do the multiple copies -- the right way to do it.  That is because these companies KNOW printing, ripping, and so forth.

But Microsoft -- Oh no, they are too thin when it comes to printer's needs to understand how crucially important it is to let a ripper do multiples.  So you will find that PowerPoint, Publisher, and all that great MS software -- this is what limits the ripper.  They are using drivers that do not allow this, and even if you install the default drivers for the ripper and printer, it makes no difference.

The only way to solve it on Apps which don't allow the ripper to multiple is to print the whole file to an EPS or something like that, and then print it from Adobe or Quark.  Worth it for 100 or so, prob. not worth it for 10-20.  Chalk another one up to Microsoft, but they are not the only ones with this software limitation.
