Question : Configuring DNS servers for workstations with different subnets but in the same domain
|
|
How should I proceed to configure a DNS server (AD integrated) for a site with workstation set with 2 different subnets, for example, 10.1.X.X / 16 ( Site A ) and 10.5.X.X / 16 ( Site B )? In fact, I have 2 different sites, and I want to keep up with 1 domain but I want to use different subnets for organization.

to continue my last post...
In this setup you can do one of two things;
1) have DHCP push out 2 default gateways a) IP of your router between the networks with a low metric (1) b) Your Internet facing router with a higher metric This way your workstations will first try to send traffic to the router between the networks and if that does not work they will try the internet router.
2) You can set the default gateway as the internet router and then create a static route on each computer that routs traffic to the other LAN through your internal router. You can accomplish by using the ROUTE ADD command in a login script.
