Question : wi-fi requires reboot to be enabled

hi there,

i've got a question.

i just bought a Twinhead Efio 121i (http://www.twinhead.com.tw/products/efio121i.htm), installed WinXp Pro. There's a button next to the button to switch on the wi-fi.  When switched on, there's a little blue LED that turns on.

My problem is this.  The first time i turn on the PC, the LED is off, after booting up winxp, i press the button, the LED turns on, but WinXp is not able to detect the wi-fi card. the icon is missing in Network Places -> properties.  I need to restart pc, then it works.

This is pretty annoying.  This means that i have to restart my PC each time i want to enable the wi-fi.

Is this a problem with the hardware config? i scanned the Bios, there's nothing mentioned about this.  Or could this be a winxp thing?

i have even tried pressing the wi-fi button immediately after switching on the PC (before winxp start booting) but still get the same result.

anybody out there with any ideas?

please advice.

thanks & regards

jchew

Answer : wi-fi requires reboot to be enabled

Did you buy it with Win XP installed or did you install it yourself?  If you installed it yourself, have you ensured that you have the most current drivers for the Wi-Fi card?

I'm guessing that your wireless card is integrated into the laptop, so you won't be able to physically remove it as suggested, but you should still be able to uninstall it with the device manager and then reboot and let windows reinstall it.  Again, make sure you have the latest drivers available.
