Question : connecting cisco and netgear switches with fiber
|
|
I am currently looking at buying the netgear GSM7324 layer 3 switch. I currently am connected throughout my network with cisco 1900 & 2924xl switches with fiber. How can I find out if this netgear switch is compatible with my cisco switches? The netgear support is terrible in India. Any help would be awesome!

So your Cisco 1900 & 2924xl switches are connected together with a fibre link ? Is there any reason in terms of distance that you need the fibre connection ? Could you use a CAT5 uplink instead ?
The netgear GSM7324 supports having four SFP Gb modules added to it.

I can't see any reason why you can't connect your two existing switches directly to the netgear one (with approriate modules). The 2924xl has two GBIC slots, if you are only using one to connect to the 1900 switch, you could get a Gb copper module for the other slot and use this to uplink to the netgear switch. If you are using VLAN trunking then you mave have to change from Cisco proprietary trunking to 802.1q to gain VLAN trunking across all the switches.
