Question : Windows XP Pro+SP2 file permissions problem?
|
|
Hi,
I have a very simple XP workgroup setup with 2 machines both running XP Pro+SP2 and everything works fine except when I go into sharing and security I cannot enable the Special Permissions checkbox. Even though the administrator has Full Control the Special Permissions checkbox is still grayed out. I have disabled simple file sharing, disabled inheritance, took ownership and have tried everything I can but with no luck.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Ken

Special permissions doesn't mean you are allowed special permissions, but rather you have set for that user something out of the ordinary. For example if you set read only permissions for the user it will not mark the special permissions box. But, if you clear all permissions for a user and then go to the advanced menu and select say List Folder contents, only, it should show as Special permissions. It doesn't indicate you have elevated privileges, but rather non-standard permissions. To me it's kind of a warning or notification to look further when checking a users permissions.
