Question : DNS resolution of just 1 external domain fails

Strange1. In my Windows AD domain, there is 1 domain www.advancepress.com.au
that fails to resolve (DNS error). ALL other external domains resolve no problem. My internal DNS is windows 2000 and I have forwarders to external DNS servers setup so that domains external to mine can be resolved (and they do except this 1). Im stumped as to why this is the case. The odd thing is the domain resolves in my DMZ and also everywhere else except in my local internal LAN. As it resolves in my DMZ I thought perhaps firewall - But how could this be the case given that I have no other name resolution problems in my internal LAN- Could it be that the delegated DNS servers for advancepress.com.au are different somehow from all other DNS servers and are performing some other step that is failing to talk back to my internal LAN? The problem is definitly DNS and when I type www.advancepress.com.au into the browser - I get a DNS error.

If anyone could throw some ideas much appreciated

Answer : DNS resolution of just 1 external domain fails

I don't mind, have a good evening :)

Anyway, to make sure I understand correctly you have:

DMZ DNS Server --> Root Hints
Internal DNS Server --> Forwarder 203.161.127.1

> using both internal and the forwarder dns - i come back with same info

So both of these work?

nslookup www.advancepress.com.au
nslookup www.advancepress.com.au 203.161.127.1

If so, I would have to ask if you use a Proxy Server, something that would explain a different response when using Internet Explorer from the response we're seeing when querying DNS.

> which is also by the way the dns server that hosts the ww.advancepress zone

I do see that the zone is hosted on a similar IP range (and by the same company), but it's not the IP above, the NS record states that these host the zone:

ns3.ctilogistics.com    203.153.243.34
ns0.amnet.net.au      203.161.125.1
ns2.amnetix.net        203.153.224.42

Close, but not quite the same.
