Question : Testing true Speed or BandWith on a LAN
|
|
Hi everyone
I'm trying to know if there is any software that can test and report the true speed or bandwith on a LAN from the server to a workstation.
Also if there is any software able to tell me if there are comunication problems on the LAN.
I've tried Whats Up Gold and it is very good but not for this, it is really good to alert me if some device or service stops working but not for speed tests.
If someone knows about that kind of software please post me the link to him.
Thank you all

Ethereal is an excellent packet sniffer that will allow you to do some thorough tetsing of network traffic. It can show you, for example, that there might be excessive ARP or ICMP packets being transmitted which could indicate things like Welchia being present on the network. It will show you the IP addresses involved in such communications and basically lead you to keeping a good handle on most problems.

As far as testing speed on the LAN itself, I recommend Netcps. I actually found out about it from EE. You can read up on it here:

And download it here:
