Question : n-Layer theroy question.... Wanted to check i am understanding the question

A system has an n-layer protocol hierarchy. Applications generate messages of  length M bytes. At each of the layers, an h-byte header is added. Explain what fraction of the network bandwidth is filled with headers?

Am i correct in saying that the fraction of bandwith used depends on the amount of messages sent. As a header is added to each message that is sent & a header is added to every layer until it gets to  physical transmission.

Thanks

Answer : n-Layer theroy question.... Wanted to check i am understanding the question

Hello Vao,

As the packages go from the top layer to the physical the size of the actual package increases for each layer with a h header
the % of the bandwidth used by the headers*layers addons will always be the same
(only the _absolute_ number of bites represented by the headers*layers addons will vary as the _absolute_ number of packages varies)

Answer: n*h/(m+(n*h))
