Question : closing remote office for a client that is using DFS-R
I would like to decommission the server in the remote office and remove it from the network.
I would like to keep DFS in place in the main office to keep my current drive mapping, home folders and My Document redirect with file synchronization working. (I created a new OU in AD when installing DFS for My documents redirect using \\domain.local\global\user
s) My concern is that file synchronization for My Documents will get broken if I change the users home folder and My Documents path. There may be remote offices opened in the future but as for now they will be running in one location.
Heres my current configuration
Main office:
Windows 2003 Small Business server DC (SVR01)
Windows 2003 Server R2 member server (SVR03) holds DFS shares and replicates data with SVR02
Remote Office:
Windows 2003 Server R2 DC (SVR02) holds DFS shares and replicates data with SVR03
From my research I think in need to perform the following steps on the remote server but need clarification on exactly how to do it.
1. Stop and or delete replication for DFS on the remote server.
2. Remove remote server from the DFS namespace (Article ID: 842218)
3. Demote server using DCpromo .
4. Delete remote site in AD sites and services.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated since I need to do this by Friday the 30th.
