Question : Win Messenger

We use a program called winmessenger.   we use it to send instant messages within the office.   It is based off of SMB.

We are rolling out new pcs and users are getting errors where they will recieve a message sent directly to them but will not recieve a message if you send one to the whole domain.

On logon they get a initialization error that states:  WinMessenger is unable to set up a message box to store your messages.

Any ideas on what is causingthe problem?

thanks

Answer : Win Messenger

Check this option:
LAN settings -> select "Internet protocol ( TCP/IP  )" -> Properties button -> Advanced button -> WINS tab
"Enable NetBios over TCP/IP" should be selected.
If it doesn't help, check firewall to allow "Files and Printer sharing".

However this protocol is deprecated, I recommend you to update to LanTalk NET
