Question : Windows 2008 x64 server DNS/Domain Join Issue

I'm newb here, so if I transgress and unwritten law, sorry in advance.

I've just installed a new Windows 2008 x64 server, I did a dcpromo and created a new domain.  I have the server running on an isolated network, just the server, a switch, and two workstations.  Both workstations are Win xp full patched.  I cannot get either to join the domain.  I get prompted for the username and password, and then I get a network path not found error, however I can do all of the following.

ping the server by name
ping the server by number
nslookup can find the server by number and by name

I cannot net use or net view the server either by name or ip address.

The server has only itself setup as a dns server.
The workstations have only the server as a dns server

It seems this has to be a dns issue, but i'm running out of ideas.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer : Windows 2008 x64 server DNS/Domain Join Issue

The final problem was a set of minor settings in several places.

1.  IEC needed to be turned off for both the administrator and all users. (not just for admins)

2.  The firewall needed to be turned off in the domain profile, the private profile, and the public profile. (not just the domain profile)

3.  In Symantec Endpoint Protection Proactive Threat Protection had to be removed from the install. (not just turned off)

Thanks for your help.
