Question : Wireless Access Point and laptop set up
|
|
I have a Linksys WAP 55AG (wireless access point). I have DSL coming in to a westell modem, which then goes into the WAN port of a Watchguard SOHO 6 router, and then via ethernet to the WAP. I have a 3 year old HP laptop that has a built in Wireless card (Intel PRO wireless 2200 BG with the latest driver I could find on the HP site). The Linksys WAP, Westell modem, and Watchguard all have the latest firmware. I am want to make sure I've set up the Linksys and the laptop to communicate the most effectively. The laptop is within the same room as the rest of the equipment. I get an excellent signal (54 mgbps) in the signal reader in the laptop. On DSL reports my desktop which is wired, gets about 2600 KBPS download and 320 KBPS upload. On the wireless laptop, I get a report of 150 KBPS download and 320 KBPS upload. Am I interpreting the download speed on the laptop correctly as being bad. I talked to TS at Linksys and really had a hard time understanding their answer, which seemed to be that I could not compare the 2 values. This may be a very open ended question, but how do I set up this equipment to work the best?

I would check out
dslreports.com for info on speed issues and techniques and programs to help out.
MTU could be the issue.
Also try changing the antenna direction on the router.
I hope this helps !
