Question : Hosting website on one server, mail on another, domain on a third

We have a client who wants to have a domain hosted on one account (godaddy). A different server where the website is being hosted and a third party where the mail is going to be handled. Dont ask why we are using this convoluted method....its been put to the client and this is what they want.

However we are having an issue resolving the different settings to have things mesh up.

Any idea about the below

On the domain host we've set the following for the mail

cname and mx to the mail server information.

For the web site server we've pointed the a record to the ip of the actual site server.

Did we miss anything? DNS is pointed to the domain name company where all of this infomation is entered.

Answer : Hosting website on one server, mail on another, domain on a third

It may be helpful to have some more information from you.  Exactly what is not working?  Can you send email?  Can you receive email?  Does the webserver respond to ping?  Have you tried using nslookup to test the dns settings?

For the webserver, you may need to check your host header settings.  This is to make sure the webserver will route the correct domain to the proper directory.

There may also be some configuration on the email server as well.

If you like, let me know the domain and I'll take a look at your dns records.
