Question : Connected but cant access (the internet)!
|
|
I can not connect to the Internet. Life is on hold!!!!
Some back ground: I have Road Runner (Cable ISP). I have called them, their system is fine. All the correct lights on modem. The network icon in the system tray shows connected at 100 bps? Yet no data transmitted or received. When I open the browser I get that stupid page that says it cant find the page and check the network settings. I am using Windows 2000 pro and Explorer for my browser. I used to have other computers networked into mine and I was using a router to connect to the Internet (i dont have that no more) but have been connecting by Ethernet network card to a Cable modem for the last 2 months with no problems.

mafrenz
you have to make sure your NIC is set up for: dhcp
in command prompt; type:
iconfig /release than renew. make sure for dhcp ( obtain IP address autom.)
than run ipconfig /flushdns
than ipconfig /registerdns
and than no more and than
you should be fine
try to ping your def. gateway and somithing by name like ping cisco.com
you should be fine.
if i were you i would get router anyway. for 40-50$ your network will be more secure and accurate
