Question : How to setup two subnets on same domain using RRAS

I am trying to setup a new subnet on our domain but seem to be having problems. I have attached a jpg showing a basic outline of our network.

On our exsisting netowrk we have win 2k3 running AD DNS and DHCP 10.0.0.0
Our plan is to setup a subnet of 10.0.1.0

The RRAS server has AD, DCHP and DNS installed. We wanted to reduce the traffic running through the fibre to the other servers for logons, dhcp and dns.

I have setup a test laptop on the new subnet and it gets its ip from the dhcp server ok. I can ping the server on 10.0.1.1 with no problems and I can also ping its netowrk card on the other subnet 10.0.0.151. But as soon as I try to ping the other servers on the 10.0.0.0 I get nothing.

I have included as much info in the diagram as i can. If I have missed some thing then please let me know and I will try and get it for you.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Answer : How to setup two subnets on same domain using RRAS

Without a static route, the laptop and other PC's will look to it's default gateway for the 10.0.0.0/24 subnet. That is why it is the "default" route. Thus either that gateway, such as a router, must have the route added, or the RRAS be the default gateway as it knows the subnet by default. The return route must be known by the remote devices as well.

The simple solution would be to make 10.0.1.1 the default gateway for the new subnet and enable Rip V2 routing on the RRAS box and 10.0.0.254 router/gateway. This allows a dynamic routing table to be built automatically.
