Question : Veritas Backup Exec 9.0 Problems
|
|
I just took over as the new NT Admin with a local compny supporting 35 users. Also, I had no instructions from the last (fired) employee. Problem is that we are running Veritas Backup Exec 9.0 and the incremental backups (set to run M-TR 9:00 pm) are failing and the full backups (set to run Fridays at 9:00 pm are failing with the error codes:
Final error code: a000848c HEX Final error description: Unable to attach to one of the drives
Unable to attach to \\ATHMANSRV03\Microsoft Exchange Public Folders. Unable to attach to \\ATHMANSRV03\Resources$. Unable to attach to \\ATHMANSRV03\ATHMANSRV03.log. Unable to attach to \\ATHMANSRV03\CertEnroll. Unable to attach to \\ATHMANSRV03\wwwroot. Unable to attach to \\ATHMANSRV03\Address. Unable to attach to \\ATHMANSRV03\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group. Unable to attach to \\ATHMANSRV03\Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes. Unable to attach to \\ATHMANSRV03\System?State.
Also, suspect tells me that permissions are set incorrectly or ???? I'm dead in the water here and need some HELP....Please assist!

Answer : Veritas Backup Exec 9.0 Problems

One common thing to add. If this ex-employee was already having troubles with the management from the 26th of January, then do check the whole network. Some more things might have happened besides Deleted Backup Exec accounts.
Certainly check if there are ways to remotely access (modems) the company and disable them. Check all the accounts available for settings concerning Remote Access. If there are, check with those users why. No reason, disable it. If you use VPN access, make sure all the accounts on the firewall are checked. Run system audits, so nothing passes your eyes unseen.
Change the passwords for ALL the Administrative accounts between now and yesterday. Check for backdoors and so on.
